Martin has been a field sportsman for almost 50 years, this lifelong passion began following his father around their homestead, controlling pest species, predominantly rabbits, squirrels and pigeons.

In subsequent years Martin has hunted with his children and even Grandchildren accompanying him at every opportunity.

Martin’s day time jobs have been in supply chain and logistics for several decades. He also completed a three year spell in the Territorial Army where he shot for his Battalion at Bisley. After an accident ended his TA service Martin, who is also an experience light aircraft pilot worked part time as a flying instructor.

The one passion and hobby which has remained throughout, is being outdoors. First as an ornithologist, then as a field sportsman this in recent years has revolved predominantly around deer management and especially the magnificent Chinese Water Deer. (CWD) As happy with a good photograph as with a ruck sack full of fresh venison, Martin is to be found out of doors at all times, in all weathers and at all times of day, particularly first light, where he is just as likely to be transfixed by the agility of the hunting barn owl as by a deer grazing.

Martin’s commitment to life long learning, has seen him sharing his passion for the outdoors and shooting by taking complete novices on ‘Field to Fork’ courses as well as experienced stalkers in pursuit of smaller fenland deer such as CWD and Muntjac. Martin also works closely with Browning Firearms testing and reviewing their products and is Bushcraft Education resident firearms expert.
